Today is the last day of July, which means that it’s the last day in my 1-month writing challenge. The challenge was to write 500 words or so every day. Some days I feel I wrote more than that and most days I probably fell below the word count. Nevertheless, this month I’ve been able to write a short essay for every single day of the month.
Now, is this habit worth keeping up considering that it is very time consuming? I think so. Looking back on the essays that I’ve written so far I think that they’ve allowed me to articulate the ideas and concerns that I have on a daily basis. More importantly I think that this is a foundational habit. By this I mean that I think that writing these essays will over time help me not only become a better writer but also unlock other skills some of which I probably cannot even imagine right now.
Where do we go from here?
The next step for me is to keep doing what I am doing and write 1 essay per day for the rest of the year. This will be added to my current habit of journaling every day and reading a couple of books every month.
- In terms of the quality of writing I also want to make sure that it improves so I will be incorporating some grammar checking service to help me with that.
- Finally I want to start publishing some of these essays on Medium just to gather some feedback and learn from others.
