Note to future self…
Today while sitting in bed I asked myself why is it that some of my “best” ideas come while I am either in bed or taking a shower?
After reading a few psychology books that touch on this phenomenon I’ve learned that this has to do with how your brain processes information and develops insights. When you’re relaxed in bed or in the shower your pre-frontal cortex that handles decision making is taking a break and this allows other parts of your brain to “surface” and come up deliver thoughts that would have been otherwise inaccessible due to heightened activity of the pre-frontal cortex.
The takeaway from all of this is that at times I should focus on “thinking less” or not trying to explicitly come up with ideas. In many cases, I get my best ideas when I am not looking for them so I should just follow the breadcrumbs and create more moments like this(:
Now back to work…
