Tennis Balls

Allow yourself to obsess over something.

Today I was hearing an excerpt from Drew Houston’s commencement speech at MIT and cool analogy that drew used was this idea that we should always remember the tennis ball. In this case the tennis ball refers to how dogs love tennis balls and if you through one they will inevitable go after it every single time. During that chase the dog is obsessed with that tennis ball and it’s the only thing it’s “thinking” about. Drew argues that we should have a “tennis ball” in our lives that we obsess over.

There’s nothing new in this idea of having one thing to obsess about but I really liked his analogy and feel that it’s a good reminder that true things can only be accomplished through focus and a borderline passion/obsession (:
