Patterns and Exceptions

Note to future self…

Today I heard someone say that “every event that happens to you is either a pattern or an exception.” Understanding this distinction can presumably help you learn and adapt faster.

Now I personally think that every event you experience in life sits on a spectrum of probability that goes from something that’s non-zero but very low to one → 0.000001 to 1.

A pattern is something closer to one. An exception is something closer to zero.

Now what can we do with this information?

If everything that happens to us is either a pattern or an exception we can better adjust our response to what happens to us. If we get really lucky we can determine that this is event was an exception to the rule and therefore we shouldn’t expect similar outcomes in the future. If we get really unlucky the same applies(:
