On Nostalgia

Note to future self…

I recently heard someone say that:

Nostalgia is discontent with the moment you’re in (crisis moments -> nostalgia as escapism and viceversa).

I personally rarely find myself being nostalgic. I do go back and “live over” my memories but these tend to be highly specific and typically the relate a special person. However, it does happen occasionally and for those moments in time it’s useful to understand that when we’re feeling nostalgic we are essentially filling up a void that we have in the present. This is fairly straightforward but up until now I hadn’t taken that next step to understand the implications of feeling nostalgic.

No key takeaways here other the mental note for future reference(:

Now back to work…
