A note to my future self..
Looking back over my notes on James Clear’s Atomic Habits I came across this mental trick that James calls the “Never Miss Twice” Rule. The rule basically says that if you’re pursuing a habit and you miss one day that is ok BUT you can’t miss two days in a row.
This little trick is great because it gives you permission to not be perfect. It also allows you to make your habits sustainable over the long term. Finally it takes off the pressure that comes whenever external factors get in your way of achieving your daily habits. All of these things are correlated and all of them are addressed by this simple rule.
That’s really it. If I miss a day in daily habits of writing, journaling or reading I should just remember that it’s ok because I won’t miss it again next day (:
