Momentum and Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

Note to future self…

Today I was watching an interview where Max Rhodes (Co-Founder of Faire) talked about how startups that have momentum tend to become self-fulfilling prophecies.

This idea certainly sounds quite attractive right? Your startup reaches a certain point where things just start working and it’s all easy from there. I am sure that this isn’t what Max was referring to but it’s certainly where my idealistic brain went. It’s also important to note that there are many stories of companies that had certain momentum but end collapsing or not having the desired outcome.

Having said so, I do wonder how do you keep that momentum going? What’s the cadence of momentum? Is there a difference in how you manage your momentum externally vs. with your investors, your team and even yourself?

Once you reach that inflection point I think that there are at least two key ingredients for keeping momentum: focus and equanimity. Two sides of the same coin. That’s just my current hypothesis.

I can’t wait for that inflection point so that I can update you on we did to keep our momentum going(:

Now back to work…
