Making my Bed

Note to my future self…

For the last couple of months I’ve been making my bed every single day every morning. It’s become such a routine that I no longer think about it. At first, I started doing this to start building good habits and as a way to have a good start to my day.

It sounds ridiculous but I am convinced that this small habit has helped me build a series of habits that have a much more profound impact on my life. For example, every morning right after I make my bed I meditate for 10-20min and right after that I look over my annual goals so that I have them top of mind.

I think that this has been such an important habit because it has been a strong identity reinforcer. If I make my bed every morning, then I can tell myself hey you’re someone who’s disciplined and has their shit together and making your bed every morning is evidence of that.

Why write about this today?

Today I also realized that a reason why I actually enjoy making my bed is because it allows me to bring order to chaos. Every morning I get to put everything back in its place after a night of tossing and turning. Removing this entropy that I’ve caused is weirdly satisfying and something that I feel is deeply rooted in the human psyche.

There’are no key takeaways from this post other than it’s rewarding to sometimes take a step back and appreciate the little moments that bring us joy.

Now back to work…
