A note to my future self..
Today I came across another tweet that resonated a lot with me and it said:
Stop trying to impress people. Impress yourself. Stretch yourself. Test yourself. Be a better version of yourself.
It was a great reminder that we should look inwards and not outwards for validation. Although we’re inherently social creatures, we shouldn’t allow others to dictate what we do.
Imagine if instead of trying to impress other people with a fancy car, a nice job title or a jaw-dropping Instagram, we focused on impressing ourselves by improving a particular area of our every single day. This might sound weird but I think it can be a lot more satisfying than external validation, which can be inconsistent and shallow.
You know better than anyone else what makes you feel truly happy and what would make you equally happy if you achieved it. If I focused on pursuing those things instead of temporary boosts to your ego, then I might all be happier. At least that’s my logic.
I know that this is easier said than done but the stakes are just too high to ignore. It’s your life that we are talking about so take control of it!
Now back to work.
