Experts and Mixtapes

Note to future self…

A lot of people will give you advice. Every book you read, every video you watch, every conversation you have is an invitation from someone to adopt their point view. Most of it will be well-intentioned but not all of it will be relevant to you.

You will seek advice from a lot of people specially “experts” that ‘have been there and done that’. That’s great because their advice can save you a ton of time and effort. However, understand that you should take what they say and see how it fits into your own life. Don’t take everything too literally.

Learning from experts is more like putting together a mixtape than writing a bunch of notes chock-full of wisdom. In some parts things won’t sound good because you have contradicting information. Overall it will be more of a process of trial-and-error as you insert snippets here and there to see what works. If something works loop it and put it on repeat. Things will sound better as you make it your own. Own the process.

That’s it.

Now back to work…
