Note to future self…
I’ve written before about the need to have a low ego. Today I want to expand on that and talk about how your ego can actually get in the ways of what you want to accomplish.
Lately, I’ve realized that a lot of the big and important decisions that I’ve taken in my life have been to feed my ego. This is probably no surprise as most of us derive our sense of identity and actions from our ego. This is actually not necessarily bad and your ego is actually what motivates you to get stuff done.
However, sometimes your ego might blind you because it’s at odds with your future self. Let me explain. Lately, I’ve realized that in my mind I’ve always tried to work on something that will change the world in some capacity. Although this is still true, I dug a little bit deeper to understand what exactly I meant by that and why did I feel this way.
It turns out that a lot of is just to get the acceptance of my peers. A lot of it is a mimicry of what other successful people portray themselves doing.
What can we do about it?
- Focus on desired goal and the steps to get there.
- Ask yourself “what’s motivating me to pursue this goal?”
This is obviously an ongoing exercise but for now this should be a good start(:
Now back to work…
