Building A Foundation. Part I: Labeling

Note to my future self…

Today I hit a big milestone. This is my 200th day writing a short post like this every single day. Although there are many things that I’ve learned so far from this process, my main takeaway is simple: I am just on day one of this journey.

I am not trying to sound all inspirational and stuff I literally mean that I am still learning how to name and label stuff that I see and experience. For example, in the past 6 months I’ve developed a more nuance view on risk. Before I would have just thought of risk as a binary decision that people just do. Now I think of risks in terms of opportunity cost, level of asymmetry, and framing effects. This is not rocket science. This is very very basic stuff and I can give you similar examples for dozens of other concepts.

My point is that I am still building a foundation upon which I can later build upon and hopefully start making more insightful connections. This takes time and it’s a process. I am well aware of that. I think the only key takeaway for me from this post is that I should constantly demand more of myself and look into areas and concepts that I would typically disregard. Eventually I will cover and internalize most of the foundational concepts in my core areas of interest (technology, psychology, stoicism, etc.) so I will have to expand beyond this areas to find interesting content to feed my mind(:

In any case, that’s still months or years away so for now I will just put my head down and get back to work…
