Note to future self…
I like being the underdog. There’s something about the hero’s journey that gets me every time.
The struggle, the pursuit, the challenge.
Overcoming. Recovering. Pushing Through.
Being an underdog is all about constantly pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
I need to look for bigger dogs
Today I accomplished one of my main goals for the year and I am very happy about that. However, this made me realize that in a certain context I am no longer an underdog. I realized that I need to look for dogs that are bigger and better.
I enjoy and appreciate my accomplishments. This isn’t about not being present in the moment. This post is about always trying to not be the smartest person in the room. It’s tempting to be because you feel a certain sense of mastery and all the social capital that this might bring.
However, there’s no growth in this state. If you want to grow, you need to stay hungry. You need to be the underdog.
Look for bigger and better dogs. Dogs that you want to be like one day. Then grow and become better than them. Go back to step 1. Repeat.
Now back to work…
