I absolutely love New Year’s because they are a great chance to reflect on your medium and long term direction. Many people hate new year’s resolutions and think that the whole “new year new me” charade is pointless. I am not that cynical and I think that if tackled adequately NYE can be a great time to reflect on the past 12 months and course correct.
For the last couple of years (2017 and 2018) I set goals and as I look back to these docs I can tell how far I’ve come. I am a lot better at aligning my goals with my core purpose. I am also a lot better at identifying the goals that really matter to me vs. those that are just common goals for people to have (e.g. fitness, travel, $$, etc.). For 2019 I am continuing the tradition. However this time I am also writing an in-depth annual review (keeping it private) based on this guide I found on Medium.
This 360 overview takes a lot of time but it’s one of my favorite things to do! I am reflecting on everything including major life events, all key areas of my life, my goals, my values, etc. I absolutely recommend anyone thinking about doing this to do it even if it isn’t 1/1.
The one thing that I can share with you from my annual review is that my #1 goal for 2019 is to build a product that +100,000 people use and love every day. I am currently working really hard on that with one of my best friends and I hope to write more about it in the upcoming days and weeks.
