A better product discovery experience

Note to future self…

I believe that there’s an opportunity to build a better product discovery experience for software products.

Current distribution channels have the following problems:

  1. Noisy: both Product Hunt and Hacker News feel that they’re constantly abused for products that are a) not actually products or b) half-baked products. I understand the need for early feedback but it feels that there’s a much better way of doing this.
  2. Cyclicality: products get a ton of exposure the day they’re launched and that’s it. This allows mediocre products that were posted in a good day to rise up and bad products to die.

Problems to solve → Content Marketing: allow people to build distribution channels

The focus would be on:

  1. Curation
  2. Quality
  3. Trust
  4. Appropriate experience

Why does this matter?

I believe that a product like this can have a substantial role in shaping the kind of products that get built in the world. By incentivizing high quality product experiences we’re more likely to raise the bar for products that get created which will hopefully make everyone’s lives a lot better(:

Now back to work…
